Chatbots in Healthcare: Unprecedented Communication

Although the adoption of Chatbots is in its early phases in the healthcare arena, one can say that its implementation has started. According to Grand View Research, Market research firm the estimation for the global chatbot market will reach $1.23 billion by 2025. And, Healthcare has become an attractive market for companies developing chatbot applications for patients and clinicians which can assist in checking patient symptoms. Companies are using natural language processing where chatbots can diagnose a user based on the symptoms he or she provides. Chatbots and virtual assistants, which are usually low-cost and broadly available, may soon find their access into the clinical environment as ordering assistants, medical scribes and patient engagement aids.

Reduced Doctor Visits: On the implementation of chatbots the patients will be able to cut down their unnecessary doctor visits because the patient will be able to get the right kind of information at their disposal. According to experts if chatbots learn to operate according to the norms of a general practitioner, they can reduce the number of office visits by 60 percent, and this can influence the cost in a mind-blowing way. Numerous chatbots are by now geared toward assisting patients with symptom-based diagnosis and permitting patients to obtain instant feedback with regards to their general health questions and ailments. They are calculated to learn from thousands of interactions in order to enhance the exactness of their disease gratitude.

Talk Freely: Diagnosis isn’t the only impressive feature of chatbots, some of them can also perform the duty of digital therapists. This type of chatbot is processed to mimic human conversation by asking important questions and letting a patient open up and communicate with their emotions. A patient while communicating with a chatbot will be able to get things off their chest without agonizing about what the other person thinks and without fear of judgment. This obscurity is a price all chatbots bring to the table.

On the organizational levels the usage of Siri, Alexa, Cortana, and others to staff help desks, take on customer assistance duties, and help teams collaborate for a better outcome. Microsoft Cortana is currently the most popular option among organizations that have already implemented AI services, and more and more organizations are depending upon the tool. Native integration in Windows 10 may be presenting Cortana the edge over other devices and services like Siri, Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa.

However, one needs to remember that chatbots are not yet functional at a truly human level. The systems that have been stationed so far are still learning and therefore are also prone to error. It is appropriate to mention that most of the chatbots are text-based and cannot acknowledge pictures or voices yet. But as this technology progresses and the recommendations become more specific and specialized, chatbots could curtail consumers billions of dollars on hospital visits and related costs.

According to a popular survey, forty-six percent of current users are leveraging voice-to-text components, while 26 percent are accommodating their teams to collaborate more efficiently through virtual assistants and communication features.  Only 10 percent are engaging in data analysis tasks using these tools.

The use of online Chatbots for healthcare on a medical practice’s website can radically augment its client engagement levels while costing a meager fraction of the conservative method. Citizens are already online, looking out for their symptoms on Google. Clinics and hospitals can draw these people to their websites and start a discussion with them via chat. These chatbot scripts can contain symptom checking questionnaires, which patients can use to recognize their symptoms in an enhanced way. The medical chatbot can then provide these patients admittance to treatment at the clinic or hospital, by immediately scheduling appointments throughout the chat window itself.
